Wow ! What can you say ! In perhaps the most exciting FWL Bowl final there sadly had to be one winner and the Amsterdam Admirals who had suffered so many heartbreaking playoffs defeats the last few years (Specially to Austria) and lost in last years FWL Bowl won their first ever league championship.

It wasnt easy. They started the season 0-2 and then won two straight games away in the playoffs before travelling away to Mexico to play in the final. The final in Mexico was a downpour as it rained constantly and FWL officials were worried in case the game would be low scoring as the weather would affect the game.

In the end offenses ruled supreme as both teams combined for 800 yards passing and both QB's were superb. The game started quickly, WR Willie Quinnie caught a short pass and dodged S Eric Crouch and sprinted 94 yards for the opening touchdown and the longest receiving TD in FWL Bowl history. The Admirals replied instantly to tie the score up 7-7 but after a long drive a crucial fumble by Aztecs QB JT O'Sullivan stopped a potential touchdown drive.

The rest of the first half was defense, Mexico missed 3 easy points with a 27 yard FG which was wide and the halftime score was 10-7 to Amsterdam as Todd France kicked a FG on the last play of the half.

The 3Q was again FG's in the rain and entering the 4Q the score was 13-10 Amsterdam. However that all changed in a crazy 4Q !!!

The Aztecs went downfield and took the lead on JT O'Sullivans 2nd touchdown pass, after Amsterdam went for it on 4th down and failed the Aztecs quickly moved downfield again, JT O'Sullivan who was having an amazing FWL Bowl and also was great in the playoffs, threw his 3rd touchdown to give Mexico a 25-13 lead with just over 5 minutes left. Admirals QB BJ Symons went to work quickly though and threw a great pass to WR Marvin Allen who had found space in the zone defense and sprinted 75 yards for the biggest touchdown of his career. Mexico gained a first down on their first play but then went 3 and out and Amsterdam had the ball on their 10 yard line with 2:45 left trailing 25-20.

QB BJ Symons was superb completing his passes all over the field as Amsterdam moved downfield. On 3rd & 3 from the Aztecs 7 yard line with 41 seconds left Symons threw his third touchdown pass to WR Adam Herzing who scored the go ahead touchdown. The Admirals added the two pointer to lead 28-25 and Mexico needed a FG to tie the game.

A short kickoff gave Mexico the ball on their own 49 yard line and a quick pass put the ball on Amsterdams 43 yard line with 24 seconds left but a huge sack by DT Davern Williams not only knocked them back but also forced them to quickly down the ball to stop the clock. 9 seconds left, 4th down, O'Sullivan went back to pass to throw a deep ball but LB Richard Adjei sacked O'Sullivan and the game was over.

Congratulations to Niki van den Berg who has had a brilliant season specially in the playoffs where his team won three straight road games, could be the first team ever to do that. After a 0-2 start he then traded his starting QB from last year who had gone to the FWL Bowl in Joe Hamilton and turned the reigns over to young BJ Symons. Symons with his third team of his short FWL career had a great season and was exceptional in the playoffs. After many heartbreaking losses congrats to Niki.

Sadly there had to be a loser and Joe Jackson of Mexico had a superb year, in a very tough AFC he came through with some great wins in the playoffs. JT O'Sullivan had 3 sensational playoff games and has moved into the upper tier of top FWL QB's.
