Wuerffel begins 16th season with victory

The Montreal Machine and QB Danny Wuerffel aren't talking about 2018. The focus is on 2017 and a wait and see in the off-season.

Backup QB Troy Smith is ready to start, and David Greene is also battling for starting time, however the focus is still on one more ring for the 16 year veteran.

With the win in week one, Weurffel is now 135-68 as a starter in his career in the FWL. During the 16 year stretch, only four other QB's have made starts for the Machine. Mike Pawlawski 3-1, Dave Ragone 1-1, Troy Smith 0-1 and Michael Bishop 0-1.

For his career, Wuerffel is 1st all-time in TD's (218), Yards (49,195), Completions (3968) while second in Attempts (5901), trailing Pat Barnes by 10. Wuerffel is 6th in completion % with 67.2 (2000 or more attempts), as well as QB Rating (100.8).

Only Wuerffel knows if there will be a 2018. "Let's see where we are at as a team after the FWL Cup", said Wuerffel.

Other Notes :
- K Jose Cortez was 6/6 on extra points and was 3/4 on field goals as he had 15 points total. The 15 points moves him to over 1300 carer points (1305), trailing David Akers for first all-time by only 19. Cortez is ranked 1st all-time in field goals (307) and 4th all-time in % with 73.27. He still has a way to go in extra points, as he trails Akers (424) by 40. Cortez owns the record for the highest field goal percentage in a season when he hit 95.83% in 2011.

- Montreal had 3 interceptions in week 1, tied for 10th all-time in a game. Rhein, Mexico, and Ohio hold the record with 5 in a game.

- McKenzie Smith ran for 134 yards and 3 TD's while catching 9 passes for 114 yards and 2 TD's. His 248 total yards is a new personal record and the 5 TD's is a team record. Smith is 4th all-time in Montreal history in single season all-purpose yardage. McKenzie, mostly a FB in his early years, moved past Marvin Welch and is now 5th all-time in team history in rushing with 2,105 yards. He has a chance to move to 3rd by seasons end, trailing Lawrence Phillips (5,444), Corey Walker (4,374), Elroy Harris (2,817) and Ricky Brown (2,658).
