Machine Embarrassed After Loss To Orlando

FWL.org.uk

The Montreal Machine gave a win to Orlando in week two, a game that they should have marked as a 'W'. Perhaps that was the difference in the loss, with the team thinking ahead to their travels to Mexico in week three.

Machine QB Danny Wuerffel had a fumble, and HB McKenzi Smith had two, while K Jose Cortez missed two field goals in the 17-12 loss. An ill-advised fake punt instead of a field goal try might be a sign that it is time for K-in-waiting Kenny Stucker to take over the field goal duties.

The Machine won the battle of first downs, total yards (holding Orlando to 200 total), controlled the clock, however were -2 in the turnover department.

Offensively, Danny Wuerffel can still wrestle Kliff Kingsbury to the ground, and beat him in a battle of chess, and it was apparent in the stats, as Weurffel was 19 of 34 for 205 yards and a TD while Kingsbury was only 11 of 24 for 143 yards with a TD and a pick.

Thanks two the three fumbles, Orlando drives averaged a start at their own 42.5. The Montreal drives averaged starting on their own 24.0. Ten of the 17 points scored by Orlando were thanks to a start on the Montreal 36 (touchdown) and the 29 (field goal).

Montreal will face Mexico in week three action, who is coming off a 31-20 loss to the Sacramento Surge.

Other Notes :
- K Jose Cortez missed on two field goal attempts in week 2, and spells concern at the kicking position. Machine coaches hope his miss of 46 and 51 in a 17-12 loss was just a blip for the league's 2nd all-time kicker.

- Interesting note - The only thing keeping Stucker from taking over kicking duties is Jose Cortez, who is chasing K David Akers all-time scoring record. Stucker was teammates of David Akers in Ohio in 2014 and 2015.
