News
Alert! News Alert! The Montreal Machine are worst in the league,
on Offense and Defense, and it is time to start all the rookies
as the season is over.
"How
about we digest the facts, and re-look at everything", said
GM Harwood. I'm not sure if this story was written in the "Sun",
the "Deutsche Welle" or the "Sporting News",
but I imagine each reporter has his opinion... asinine as it may
or may not be.
The
story is the Montreal Machine are 1-2. 1-0 at home and 0-2 on the
road. The two road losses were by 5 and by 2. Let's please not panic
yet.
Digging
deaper, the Machine are 8th in rushing (T-5th in rush average),
while being 4th in rush defense (T-3rd in rush average). Montreal
is 11th in passing, however 1st in pass defense. Montreal is 1st
in points for (by far) with 89 (+15 over 2nd place SA) and 6th in
points against (9 more than 1st place Amsterdam).
Simply
put, we are not panicing yet. 12-2 last year, and we have already
matched our losses for last year, but 12-2 also didn't win us a
Championship now did it?
Montreal
looks to rebound at home and even things out, as well as silence
the critics of the 'lost season', as they host 1-2 Birmingham.
The
Machine will give K Jose Cortez two more game at starting kicker
this week and next so he can possibly break the scoring record at
home (unfortunatley the game doesn't allow for relief duty at K2).
Kenny Stucker has already been announced as the week kicker @ Rhein
to get some playing time. Cortez will assume the K1 role in week
7.
Due
to the extra throws in week 3 in a passing battle vs. Mexico, Danny
Weurffel is now 2nd to last in completion percentage at 58.2%, a
career low. Management has QB Troy Smith working out with the 1st
team this week, even thought the career leader in yards and TD's
is still listed as the week 4 starter. At 135-70 as a starter, Weurffel
is eyeing 140 wins to pass the all-time wins mark, set by Albert
Higgs in another league. Not worried about personal records, but
Montreal media is watching for Wuerffel's week four passing numbers,
as he is 235 yards short of 50,000 career pasing yards. Wuerffel
already is 1st all-time in attempts, completions, yards, and TD's.
Other
Notes :
- K Jose Cortez passed David Akers in FG Attempts all-time
with 425. With two less season's in the FWL than Akers, Jose
Cortez is 7points away from becoming the league's all-time
scorer.

- DE Isaac Hilton still looks like the steal in a trade in
2016 when Montreal sent LB Andre' Sommersal to RDU for Hilton
and a 5th round pick. Since joining Montreal in 17 games,
Hilton has totaled 42 tackles and 20 sacks, while totalling
10 tackles and 4.0 sacks for Austria and Raleigh-Durham over
a four year span. Sommersal had 24 tackles and 3.0 sacks in
2016, and has 7 tackles in 2017.DE
Isaac Hilton is 2nd in the FWL this season with 6.0 sacks
this season.
